The Ekiti State Police Command, has described as untrue the news that its van killed an officer while chasing Yahoo boys.
A statement by the command spokesperson, ASP Sunday Abutu described the news as fake fabricated to ridicule and dent the image of the State Police Command and the Nigeria Police Force as a whole.
According to the statement, a distress call was received from the DPO Ikole-Ekiti by the Rapid Response Squad for reinforcement for the possible arrest of some suspected cultists who have been terrorising the people of Ikole-Ekiti and it’s environs.
It states that the RRS Commander deployed three patrol vehicles to that axis for the operation but Unfortunately, while on their way, one of the three patrol vehicles developed a mechanical fault, and went off its lane and consecutively hit an oncoming motorcycle riden by a policeman who had closed from work and was returning home.
The statement added that the officer was later confirmed dead by a medical doctor while eight other RRS operatives in the patrol vehicle sustained different degrees of injuries and are currently in the hospital receiving medical attention.
The command enjoined Members of the public to disregard and discountenance the news and consider it as one of those fake news on the social media that are aimed at causing unnecessary tension.
Meanwhile, the Ekiti State Commissioner, CP Tunde Mobayo, has sympathized with the family of the deceased Police Officer and pray God grants him eternal rest.
He also visited the injured police officer in the hospital,while he will also visit the family of the deceased Police officer to sympathize with them.
