Imo State Commissioner of Police cautions public against false alarm

The Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, Rabiu Hussaini, has warned of the consequences of raising false alarm and peddling of unfounded rumours in the state.


His reaction follows rumours of attack by unknown gun men in Owerri, Monday October 2021, which caused pandemonium in most parts of the Imo state capital.


In his response as contained in a statement signed by the police public relations officer, Micheal Abatam, the the CP described the rumoured attack by as false, describing it as a ploy by detractors to cause fear and destabilize the already achieved peace in the state.

He however noted that on the strength of the fake news, the command immediately mobilized patrol teams and went out on confidence building patrol of the metropolis, ordering the DPOs in their various divisions to replicate same.

Consequently, the statement has directed INDIGENES of the state to desist from obeying orders by illegal persons or groups, as the Police Command is working in synergy with other security agencies to ensure that citizens rights are protected and peace is maintained in the state.

The Commissioner of Police, while expressing confidence in the security measures already in place to check crime and criminalities, urges the people to continue to go about their lawful businesses without fear of harassment or molestation, urging them to remain law abiding and report any suspicious activities to the nearest Police Station or call the Command’s emergency number 08034773600.
