NJC constitutes investigative committees over three exparte orders

The National Judiciary Council NJC has constituted three Investigative Committees to look into the cases of 3 Judges who granted exparte orders and two others for misconduct.

In a statement by the
Director, Information NJC, Soji Oye said the National Judicial Council under the Chairmanship of the Chief Justice of Nigeria Justice Ibrahim Tanko Muhammad at its 95th Meeting in September 2021 and in line with the principles of fair hearing directed that the three Judges of coordinate jurisdiction who granted Exparte Orders over the same case and subject matter to appear before a special Investigation Committee constituted by the Council.

They are to show cause why disciplinary action should not be taken against them for such act.

Council also resolved to set up a Medical Board to ascertain the health status of Justice Amina Yaroson of Kaduna State Customary Court of Appeal. While a warning letter was issued to Justice Sobere Biambo of High Court of Rivers State for descending into the Arena of conflict in a matrimonial Suit brought before him.

Reports of the two Preliminary Complaints Assessment Committees (PCAC) on the petitions written against 18 Judicial Officers were considered while a letter of advice was issued to Justice Elias Abua of Cross River State High Court for granting an Order staying execution of judgement which appeared executory in nature.
Petitions written against some justices were however dismissed for lacking in merit
