PRESIDENT BUHARI APPROVES CHANGE OF NAME FOR SCIENCE MINISTRY

PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI HAS APPROVED THE CHANGE OF NAME FOR THE FEDERAL MINISTRY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY.
IT WILL NOW BE KNOWN AS THE FEDERAL MINISTRY OF SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY AND INNOVATION.

MINISTER OF SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY AND INNOVATION DR. OGBONNAYA ONU, WHO CONFIRMED THIS APPROVAL, MADE IT CLEAR THAT THE CHANGE BECAME NECESSARY FOR THE MINISTRY TO EFFICIENTLY USE SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY AND INNOVATION TO CATALYSE NIGERIA’S ECONOMIC GROWTH AND COMPETITIVENESS.
HE SAYS THE DEVELOPMENT WILL AID THE MINISTRY BRING ABOUT A SHIFT IN RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT THAT IS INDUSTRY AND SERVICES DEMAND DRIVEN.
THIS WILL ULTIMATELY RESULT IN RAPID COMMERCIALIZATION AND IMPROVED GLOBAL COMPETITIVENESS RANKING OF NIGERIA.

THE APPROVAL OF THE CHANGE OF NAME HE AFFIRMED WILL BE GAZETTED TO ENABLE LEGAL AND POLICY FRAMEWORKS AS BACK-UP FOR INSTITUTIONAL AND ORGANISATIONAL ARRANGEMENTS, EFFECTIVE CORDINATION OF THE NATIONAL SYSTEM OF INNOVATION, DEVELOPMENT OF APPROPRAITE WORK PROGRAMMES AND JOB DESCRIPTIONS.
