Ondo State Governorship Election: Court of appeal dismisses Eyitayo Jegede appeal against Akeredolu

The court of appeal sitting on the 2020 Ondo State Governorship election has dismissed the Appeal by the People democratic party PDP candidate,Eyitayo Jegede against the judgement of the Tribunal that upheld the victory of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of the All Progressives Congress APC at the election in the state.
Justice Theresa Ngolika Orji-Abadua, who Read the lead judgment in a virtual sitting which lasted over two hours,said the case filed by Jegede lacks merit.
Justice Abadua ruled that the appellate court came to a conclusion that the appeal lacks merit though some of the grounds were meritorious as the court dismissed the grounds 3 and 7 and partly allowed ground 6 of Jegede’s appeal while it resolved issues 1, 2, 4 and 5 in favour of the appelant.

The PDP candidate Jegede and
his running mate Lucky Aiyedatiwa had approached the appealate court after the tribunal on the 20th april 2021 dismissed his petition challenging the nomination and election of Akeredolu and Aiyedatiwa for lacking in merit.
