The Delta state police command has confirmed the attack on the Ashaka Divisional Police Headquarters in Ndokwa East Local government of the state by gunmen on Sunday morning. The armed men numbering about twenty were said to have stormed Ashaka police station, threw improvised explosive devices at the station, shot sporadically, and set the police station that was built by the community on fire. and also burnt down one patrol vehicle
The statement by the Acting Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe indicates that no life was lost and no arm was taken away. However, the command said it will not relent in ensuring that law and order is maintained in any community.
He further warned that the hoodlums who perpetrated this dastardly act will certainly not go free, as serious efforts are on to arrest them and bring them to book.
In another development, the tactical team of the Command has killed six armed robbers encountered along Issele Uku,Umunede axis in Aniocha North Local government area of the state and recovered One AK 47 rifle, One pump action gun and one AK 47 Magazine with 25 live ammunitions during operation in the hideout of suspected armed robbers and kidnappers.
Similarly four other criminal suspects were apprehended by the command and one locally made Barrett’s pisol recovered while on stop and search duty along Patani-Bayelsa road.
The State Commissioner of Police Mohammed Arri has however assured Deltans of protection of their lives and property while urging the public to provide the police necessary information to help combat crime in the state.
