The recently-constituted Eleventh Governing Council of The Federal Polytechnic, Ado Ekiti has commenced its inaugural activities at the Polytechnic campus with courtesy visits and engagements with some identified internal and external stakeholders of the Institution.
A statement by the Polytechnic’s Director of Protocols, Information and Public Relations, Ade Adeyemi-Adejolu indicated that with the arrival of the Chairman and some external members of the Council under the Chairmanship of Akogun Iyiola Oyedepo from Sunday 30th May 2021, a week-long activities, meetings, visits and engagements start on Monday, 31st May, 2021 at 9.00am with a meeting with the Principal Officers of the Polytechnic.
The interaction with the Principal Officers is to be followed by series of other meetings with the Academic Board; Management Committee; Executives of the three Staff Unions; Executives of the Students’ Union and the National Executive of The Federal Polytechnic Ado Ekiti Alumni Association and end the day with a tour of facilities of the main campus of the Institution.
The Inaugural engagements of the Governing Council will continue on Tuesday, 1st June, 2021 with an interactive meeting with the 2021 Presidential Visitation Panel to the Polytechnic, to be followed by a facility tour of the satellite campus (CEC); then a courtesy visit to Aare Afe Babalola at ABUAD will follow and end up the day with an interactive meeting with all Staff of the Polytechnic at 3:00pm at the Polytechnic Sports Complex.
The courtesy visits by the new FPA Council to some of the external stakeholders will come up on Wednesday, 2nd June, 2021 with visits to the Chairman of Ado Local Government at 10:00am; The monarch of Ado Ekiti and Ewi-in-Council at 11:30am, while visit to Dr. John Kayode Fayemi, Governor of Ekiti State is proposed for 1:30pm as the courtesy visits will be subsequently rounded up on that day with a visit to the State Commissioner of Police and the Director of Department of State Security Services in Ekiti State.
Consequently, the first intensive working meeting of the new Council has been fixed to hold on Thursday, 3rd June, 2021 among other activities as may be subsequently mandated.
It will be recalled that the new Governing Council of the polytechnic, the 11th in the series of Governing Board of the Federal Polytechnic Ado Ekiti, was announced in early April 2021 and inaugurated by the Honourable Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu along with those of 24 other Federal Polytechnics and 21 Federal Colleges of Education on Tuesday, 20th April, 2021.
The inaugural engagements of the new Governing Council was therefore delayed till this time as a result of the recently ended Ramadan fast with Sallah coupled with the activities of the 2021 Presidential Visitation Panel to the polytechnic, under the chairmanship of Chief John A. A. Ochoga, whose activities are still on-going.
The Chairman and external members of the 11th Governing Council of the Polytechnic that were inaugurated in Abuja by the Minister include Akogun Iyiola Oyedepo, a top-rated legal practitioner from Kwara State.
Others are Ekiti State born ace broadcaster and seasoned politician, Chief ‘Ronke Okunsanya; Hajia Rabi Haruna, from Kogi State; Mallam Bako Mohammed from Adamawa State and Mr Alabo Martins, an APC bigwig from Bayelsa State.
Other members representing various interest groups, internal and external includes the Rector; the two Deputy Rectors; representative of the host community; National President of the Institution’s Alumni Association, representative of the Federal Ministry of Education; two representatives of the Academic Board and three other representatives elected by the Polytechnic’s Congregation, with the Registrar of the Institution as Secretary to the Council.
