Tanker explosion claims lives in Benue.

The Federal Road Safety Corps has confirmed
at least twelve people have lost their lives in a tanker explosion on Sunday evening in Oshugbudu community in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State.

The tanker conveying petroleum products was said to have lost control, fell over as a consequence and exploded in flames.

Sector Commander, FRSC Benue State Command, Yakubu Mohammad told NTA News that the tanker fully loaded with petroleum products fell at the Oshigbudu-Obagaji junction destroying major parts of the Oshigbudu community.

An eye witness & former member of the Benue state house of assembly representing Agatu state constituency, Dickson Sule also confirming the incident said several vehicles & about fifteen motorcycles were engulfed in the inferno.

He said efforts to get the fire service were not successful as residents within the community had to scamper to safety as several houses were also razed by the fire.

The bodies of the dead persons are said to have been deposited at the mortuary.
