FOMWAN advocates adequate water supply

The Federation of Muslim Women’s Associations in Nigeria (FOMWAN) has attributed the lack of access to safe water to an increased in maternal and child mortality, number of out of school-children especially girls as well as poor sanitation, and climate change.

The National Amirah, FOMWAN, Dr Halima Jibril made the call, while briefing newsmen in commemoration of the World Water Day celebration in Abuja.

FOMWAN however requested that 40 per cent constituency funds be channelled to provision of safe water, giving priority to rural communities saying politicising water issues was a bait for votes during elections, urging candidates to desist from the act as every citizen had rights to water.

The National Amirah, FOMWAN, further encouraged women to avail themselves in dialogues on ward development projects to determine what the priorities were, and ensure that such projects were gender-sensitive for the interest of womenfolks.
