INEC CANCELS EKITI BYE- ELECTION,THREE KILLED

The independent National Electoral commission INEC has cancelled the bye-election in Ekiti East constituency one of Ekiti State ,
following the violence that characterised the conduct of the election.
The Resident electoral commissioner Dr.Adeniran Tellar confirmed this while addressing the press at the INEC office, Omuo Ekiti saying three persons were confirmed dead in the process
The Resident electoral commissioner Dr.Tella attributed the cancellation to the pocket of violence that characterised the election in two polling units in ward 9 Obadore and polling unit 7 ward 7.
According to the REC three voters were shot dead ,while a youth corps member and one lNEC staff sustained injuries and as such circumstance the safety of personnel could not be guaranted ,hence the suspension of the election.
Two members of the National Assembly from the town, senator Biodun Olujimi of PDP and House of Representatives members, Femi Bamisile of APC described the crisis as unfortunate as such did not speak good of the Nation’s Democracy and want the perpetrators of the violence to be brought to book.
The election started on peaceful note as the electorate came out to exercise their franchise at various polling units at Obadore to the four wards at lsinbode 1,2,3 and 4 in the constituency.
However, the situation turned dramatic as there was sporadic shooting at Ward 7 unit 7 when some thugs allegedly made an attempt to snatch ballot boxes a situation which led to the death of the three persons with several others sustaining injuries.
The bye election was occasioned by the death of the member who represented the constituency, Honourable Juwa Adegbuyi who died recently.
