House of Representatives legislates on enforcement of constitutional provisions.

The House of Representatives has passed for second reading a constitution amendment bill that seeks provision of mechanism for rights enforcement.

Sponsor of the bill representative Saidu Abdullahi pointed out that certain rights of citizens as provided in the 1999 constitution as amended are not enforced thereby denying some citizens their rights to access social services due to discrimination.
The bill referenced universal declaration of human rights, International convention on civil and political rights, convention on elimination of all forms of discrimination against women, the protocol to the African charter on human and peoples rights, and the rights of women in Africa among others, as areas that require mechanism for enforcement.
