In a bid to foster understanding of better government policies and programmes, the Ekiti State Government has tasked spokespersons to brace up in enlightening people at the grassroots on the opportunities and projects of Dr Kayode Fayemi in the State.
This, according to Ekiti State Government is to bridge the communication gap between the government and the governed and also to enable people of the State avail themselves of some of the benefits and opportunities at their disposal.
Speaking in Ado Ekiti during a community stakeholders engagement/ sensitisation programme ( Se e ti gbo), organized for All Progressives Congress (APC) Public Relations Officers in the 16 local governments and 177 wards in the State, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Communications and Strategy, Mrs Sola Salako-Ajulo explained that the intention of the programme was to equip ambassadors on how to effectively communicate government plans, policies and programmes to the people at the grassroots.
Ajulo said the selection of APC spokespersons across the State for the enlightenment programme was due to the sensitive position they occupy as well as the need to impart them with knowledge to bridge communication gaps and achieve a better understanding of government performance in their communities.
She explained that the spokespersons were being empowered with materials and other necessary tools to make their work easier in disseminating and sensitizing the populace at the grassroots on how to utilize some of the opportunities that are available to them as citizens and residents of the State.
Mrs Ajulo said the participants need to effectively and efficiently communicate the life-transforming programmes and projects that Governor Fayemi had executed to the people at the grassroots and how they can participate and benefit from the opportunities such projects presents to them.
At the event, some of the projects which were displayed through audio-visual devices cut across the five pillars of Dr Fayemi’s administration namely; good governance, agriculture and rural development, social investment, knowledge economy, and infrastructure and industrial development.
According to Mrs Ajulo, the “Se e ti gbo” programme in the past four months, has been moving from one local government to another meeting with various groups in the formal and informal sectors, gathering feedback on the policies and programmes to enhance the performance of government in the delivery of the dividends of democracy.
She said “the programme is one of our grassroots communication tools, we realized that a whole lot of Ekiti indigenes are not aware of the programmes and projects of the government and they feel nothing is happening around them.
“So we came up with this concept that would take communications of government projects and opportunities to local government, ward level and everywhere in Ekiti so that people can be aware and participate in it.
“We have been doing that for the past four months, going from one local government to the other, meeting with various groups, women groups and the informal sector groups just to explain and show them the great work and policies of government so that they can participate in it, believe it and act on it.
“This particular programme is also on air, we feature twice a week on five radio stations in Ekiti State. We have been showcasing the activities of government, specially those ones that people can participate in. For instance there are a lot of loans and empowerment funding that have been coming from the federal government to Ekiti State to help because of the effect of COVID-19 pandemic. We have been using this platform to create awareness about them, so that more people whether they are in Ilejemeje or in Moba or in Ilawe, can all be part of it and that has been really helpful.
The “Se e ti gbo” Programme is being supported by Ecobank using the platform to drive financial inclusion into the rural communities as well as empower micro enterprises with soft loans to improve the rural economy in Ekiti State.
“This event is targeted at raising ward level ambassadors for “Se e ti gbo”, so all the PROs of APC in all the wards of Ekiti State are now being empowered with material and information for mobilization. So that they can go to their ward level and continue the work that we have done at the local government level.”
In his reaction the APC State Publicity Secretary, Mr Ade Ajayi, commended the government for the exercise, adding that it would strengthen the performance of participants in the projection of government image both at the local government and ward levels.
