Ekiti Judicial Panel Sets deadline for submission of petitions

Ekiti State Judicial Panel of Inquiry into Allegations of Human Rights Violations against Police officers, including Officers of the Special Anti-Robbery squad (SARS) and other persons has announced 30th, November, 2020 as

deadline for submission of petitions to the panel.

The Chairman of the Panel, Justice Justus Akintayo (Rtd) who made the announcement stated that the panel shall not receive any petition beyond the stipulated date.

Justice Akintayo stated further stressed that, Ekiti people want Justice to bring lasting peace and the panel will ensure and work towards ensuring that their recommendations will bring the true peace to the petitioners and the defendants.

He called on all parties involved in any case to avail the panel of all the facts of their petitions without hiding anything in assisting the panel to achieving its goal.

The panel further considered the petition of Mrs. Ogunleye Yetunde Ajayi ( sueing on behalf of Late. Sergeant Ajayi Musiliu) and unknown persons by calling witness to probe more into the circumstances that led to the death of Sgt. Musiliu Ajayi.
The Panel directed that the Nigerian Army be summoned through the Ekiti State Garrison commander in a case between Ajidara Irewole and unknown Soldiers.
In line with rule 20 of the Judicial Panel of Ekiti State, four cases of the same facts and nature were considered for consolidation
The cases are : Police Community Relation of Ekiti State (PCRC) and unknown persons ; CSP. Oyedele James and unknown persons, Sgt. Aderobake Felix and unknown persons and Victor Akinsuyi and Unknown persons.
Twelve other cases were considered for hearing and rescheduled for hearing on agreed dates with all the parties.
The panel rose for further sitting on 26th, November, 2020.
