The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ekiti Council, has commended the efforts of the Ekiti-born popular gospel musician, Dr Olayinka Ayefele for establishing a branch of his Fresh FM radio and music house in Ekiti State.
The chairman of the Union, comrade Rotimi Ojomoyela gave the commendation during a courtesy visit to the radio house situated in Egbewa/Falegan along Ilawe road in Ado-Ekiti.
The NUJ chairman who observed that the station has been doing wonderfully well, said he was overwhelmed by the qualities of the programmes and music dishing out since hitting the airwaves with a bang.
According to him, “As at today and as far as Ekiti State is concernd, Fresh FM radio remains one of the best in terms of old and current music, contents and I’m proud to be associated with the quality of professionalism on display.”
The NUJ boss opined that the editorial team will be living to standard to meet up with listener’s expectations and that of their professional calling.
“I must confess, you have done well by bringing this to Ekiti. As a private individual, you’ve shown genuine interest in giving back to the society by investing in broadcasting industry in spite of the difficult terrain. I’ve listened to some of your programmes, seasoned and experienced broadcasters, men who have contributed immensely to the media industry.”
Ojomoyela, then lauded the veteran broadcaster, describing him as a rare breed Nigerian with passion for community development and philanthropy per excellence. He however frowned at the attitudes of some veterans in the media profession who had not thought of giving back to the profession which brought them to limelight.
According to him, “We appreciate your kind guesture in embarking on this laudable edifice, but I will urged you to keep the momentum and the result will come one day. Let people scream about your stories and headlines because that is what will make you standout.” Ojomoyela advised.
Responding, the music legend, Dr Yinka Ayefele OFR who could not hold his joy thanked the leadership of NUJ for the support and love for the station and towards the development of Ekiti in general.
“Over the years, there is huge passion in me to float a branch of Fresh FM station in Ekiti as my little contribution to the society who stood solidly behind me during my trying period, having left the state over the years and travelled far and wide, but no place like home and as far as broadcasting industry is concerned, I think I’ve paid my dues and this is my humble way of giving back to the industry and society at large.”
He however promised not to let the esteemed listeners in Ekiti down while soliciting for more support from NUJ and residents of Ekiti in general.
