The Nigeria Medical Association Ekiti state chapter has commended the state government for the various precautionary measures taken against the spread of coronavirus otherwise known as covid-19.
The association says it believed that more still needed to be done particularly in the provision of necessary facilities at the isolation center.
This is contained in a statement signed by the NMA Chairman Dr Tunj Omotayo, the secretary Tunji Olaoye and the Chairman Emergency Response Committee Dr. Olumuyiwa Oluyide in Ado Ekiti.
”The NMA Ekiti Emergency Response Committee visited the Isolation Centre in the State where the confirmed case is being monitored. The facilities in the Isolation Centre is satisfactory but there is still a room for improvement.it added
The statement stressed the need for government to upgrade the facilities at the Isolation center and ensure surveillance, contact tracing and quarantine affected patients.
It also suggested that the contacts of the index case in Ekiti State and those who show symptoms should be isolated as soon as possible while the non-conclusive result of the suspected index case American male should be repeated.
According to the association, the laid down protocols of collecting and transporting samples of suspected cases to reference laboratories should be strictly adhered to adding that any health institution that violates the protocols should be sanctioned accordingly.
“We advocate for continuous health education through different channels to enlighten the populace on the preventive measures of the disease. We advise against peddling of fake news as this is capable of causing unnecessary panic among our people.
